Sonny Cher Funeral 21 Gun Salute 7-1-09

I’ve seen very little TV in my life but somehow caught this excerpt years ago. It really impressed me, as her tears were so heartbreaking.  She once said that her success was due to this (White) man, (my own emphasis).  He was the brains behind their act and talent.
When they first started, (at black Motown no less) where they worked in the office, they had done some singing.  Once, there was a need for an extra female voice so they asked Cher to sing.  She got up to do so, but froze and couldn’t walk on stage.  Sonny actually ‘pushed’ her on stage physically, and she might have fallen but got up and faced the audience which she dreaded.
I was actually looking up “I’ve Got You Babe,” but this one was next so I thought I’d forward it.  I guess since I’ve spent the past couple years getting information about my White Viet Vet War Hero and his life and death for the Purple Heart museum, this video  just reminded me of my own Mike Duncan, and his 21 military gun salute funeral.  You know, that is all my husband wanted in life…. was a funeral.  He never wanted to be the chief of the Fed Reserve, like the Jews won, he never wanted to be the CEO for CBS, ABC, NBC, he never wanted to be the head of Microsoft, EBAY, PayPal, AOL, SPLC, or ADL, like the Jews drown in all their $$$$.   I never got the connection then but since he never was honored in life for his Viet Nam contribution and White blood that he sacrificed, he just wanted to be assured that he would get the military funeral with the 21 guns and the Marines so that a few fellow men could be by his side as he went to meet his maker.  I’m sorry but now I’m crying like Cher.  I didn’t attend his funeral, as I was his former wife, and had left the Midwest for good.   Thank God I gave him 2 White sons who were pall bearers.  Hadn’t I had his children, there would have been ‘no’ one at his funeral.  Who would have arranged for his military departure as my sons took care of that for him.  Yet he was a good man, a top notch boss, a loving father and son, a White heterosexual male, who although wasn’t Christian certainly supported not only my decision to raise my sons in Christian Sunday School, but to also allow me to keep the boys from vaccines, medicines, pills, vitamins, etc, part of my church’s teaching, which certainly wasn’t an easy decision for him to stand by.  It’s what made him a ‘strong’ man and as well as a ‘strong’ Marine.
